Prince Augustus
Continuing my deityship series, all praise must be to Prince (in mp3). If there is a divinity that screams duality, it is him. In my Pantheon, I would say he is Baccus -- though I think he is now a born-again evangelical or a Jeovah's witness or something (???)... Hopefully that will be another symbol stage, or maybe he is having his Bob Dylan period...
Anyway, I first heard him with "I wanna be your lover" from the album Prince. Then came Dirty Mind, which was just too embarassing to look at. Prince has always been one of those guys whose image actually detracts from the music. I think it was Boy George who once remarked that Prince looked like "a dwarf who fell into a vat of pubic hair." Was that right or what? He was just very difficult to look at... Luckily, Portuguese TV at the time (79-81) did not show his videos...
Then Controversy came out, and I was really swept by the track "Do me, baby" -- yeah, yeah, I know, this is where you can plug in all the Beavis and Butthead giggles. But it is a phenomenal track and a classic album.
Everything he put out after this, until Batman that is, kept getting better and better. Lovesexy is a masterpiece, but sadly followed by the symbol/slave years. There were some Zen soulrays in Girl 6, and a great comeback with Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic as well as Musicology. Browsing through his music store, you just wish he didn't release every single song that pops into his mind...
Anyway, Prince rules Soul Heaven -- and he rules this paradise via the body. It's all about the booty. Hey, Prince, thanks for all the City Zen! Listen to a recent mash-up of Controversy I found online.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever

Love Him, Love Him baby

People call me rude, I wish we were all nude
I wish there was no black and white, I wish there were no rules
