Variations on white
Another year without a single african-american in my (aprox. 40 student) undergraduate class at IU School of Informatics and Computing, Bloomington. This is even more under-represented than the national statistics, which are already so bad, especially for african-american males: olny close to 10% of bachelors degrees in all fields go to african-americans, and only 3.5% to african-american males. I guess in computing we approach the near-zero and diversity is in practice dealt with variations on white. Some thoughts for MLK day next monday. I guess we have to keep going west to that multicolor utopia.
