Top 2015 tracks
Here are my favorite 30 tracks of 2015. Happy, dark, jazzy to house, mellow and bangers. These have been on heavy Rotation (playlist on Spotify). Probably forgot others, but these are certainly memorable.
David Bowie - Blackstar. The rock God returns in great Jazzy, dreampop form.
Rosin Murphy - Unputdownable (Tom Demac Remix). The Irish house voice makes a memorable pop album; this remix is as sweet as it gets..
YACHT — I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler. Yacht look like the new Eurythmics mixed with the Pet Shop Boys and produce some of the most clever disco-pop around.
Escort - Body Talk. Best Disco-House track of the year.
Petite Meller - Barbaric. Exhilarating French Pop. Die Antwoord meets Olivia Newton-John.
!!! - Freedom 15. Still making the best disco-punk in the Bay Area.
Moullinex - Take a Chance. The Portuguese disco hipster does it again.
Leonard Cohen - Nevermind (PillowTalk Re-Rub). As soon as I heard this track in Cohen's fantastic Popular Problems 2014 album, I immediately included it in one of my DJ sets in a similar vein, but PillowTalk, as usual, did the track justice, Spicing it up with respect.
Jamie XX (Feat. Romy) - Loud Places. Perfect voices, perfect mood.
Tei Shi - Bassically. Tei Shi is so interesting. Grrrl power sweet and angsty.
Florence And The Machine - What Kind Of Man (Nicolas Jaar Remix). One of the best remixes of the year. Turns the original into a dark jungle disco odyssey.
Oscar Key Sung - Brush. An instance of the great vibes from down under. Melbourne producing some of the sweetest dance pop.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Can't Keep Checking my Phone. Groovy rock pop.
Da Chick - Do Tha Clap. Old-school electro pop from this Portuguese newcomer.
Disclosure - Holding On (Gus Pirelli VIP 7" Disco Mix) [feat. Gregory Porter]. Disco Mix of a great House Pop track on their new album.
The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face. Unavoidable. Biggest hit of the year?
Capicua (feat. Aline Frazao) - Lupa (D-One Remix). This collaboration across the Portuguese-speaking World sticks.
Lana Del Rey - The Blackest Day. When feeling sad in the sun is your thing, no one does sunny angst better than Lana.
C Duncan - Say. Talent and uniqueness.
GNR -Cadeira Electrica. Plug in, feel the energy, why resist?
Melo D -Dinheiro. Afroportuguesebrazziliansoulmusic, better than money.
Lianne La Havas - Unstoppable (FKJ Remix) . Soul chill, unstoppable.
New Order - Singularity. New Order, at their singular best, again.
FFS - Johnny Delusional. "Some might find me borderline attractive from afar," symphonic rock disco, how hip is that?
Kraak & Smaak (feat. Keyhole) - All I Want Is You (Xinobi Remix). The original is so much fun, but this remix from Portuguese master remixer Xinobi brings it to the next angsty level.
Gorgon City ft. Katy Menditta - Imagination (Weiss Remix) . Fire on the dancefloor; if this don't make your booty move, your booty must be dead. Gorgon City systematically putting the best dance music out there.
All We Are - Keep Me Alive. I know this came out in December 2014, but it was still one of the tracks of the year for me.
Suiyobi no Campanella - West Tamao. Versatile J-Pop at its best.
Grimes - Flesh without Blood. Not sure why I like this, but I do. My inner teen angst?
Nina Simone- Love Me or Leave Me (Suonho Relove). Love this 2015 edit because it makes Simone's classic Jazz more danceable but keeps amazing piano at center of track.
