Alive

As usual, here is a recording of E-Trash's sets on the last Riot Bootique, on the night of January 24 at Root Cellar Lounge. This contains the first set of the night plus a portion of E-Trash's second set. Starts mellow, plays homage to the Everly Brothers (alive and well), moving on to a funk/disco/club party; the second set (a bit towards the end) was a house and acid house affair. Tracklist below. You can also access a higher quality file for Alive on E-Trash's site (Username: apollo, Password: feelingfree).

Treasure

E-Trash's first set, from Riot Bootique, on the night of October 25 at Root Cellar Lounge. This was a follow-up set to DJ Angst starter set, so it starts banging moving on to a fun House/disco/club party. Podcast for Treasure on E-Trash's site (Username: apollo, Password: feelingfree). Play Rave Riot

The latest E-Trash sets, from Riot Bootique, on the night of April 26 at Root Cellar Lounge. Here are both sets I played. The first set is a playful, disco-club party. The second set, which was done without any preparation, is a rave that goes from techno-hip hop to acid to disco. Hey, we had the glow sticks out... Tracklists below. You can also access higher quality files for Play and Rave is the new Riot on E-Trash's site (Username: apollo, Password: feelingfree).

Miami Dive

The latest E-Trash mix, from Riot Bootique, on the night of March 22 at Root Cellar Lounge. This is mostly the starter set (re-recorded after the event due to glitches at the event) plus a portion of the second set (played live). This is one of the most melodic mixes I have made, and I really like the result: sexy horizontal disco all the way to the party. BTW, since this was a starter set, it is always curious to me at which track people actually start dancing seriously; in this case it was between tracks 9 and 10---disco and and actual verbal command ("you can dance if you want to") seems to do the trick every time... Tracklist below. You can also access a higher quality file on E-Trash's site (Username: apollo, Password: feelingfree).

Club Riot

The latest E-Trash mix, from Riot Bootique, last Friday night. Even though things ended earlier on such a cold night, we got all the people dancing at Root Cellar Lounge. Here is E-Trash's first set played live that evening (errors and all). A Club Riot as this was all done in a Club mindset: Shut up an play the hits, sort of thing... Tracklist below. Disco Gun to warm Bloomington up

The latest E-Trash mix, from Riot Bootique, last Friday night. It was an awesome night with more than 280 people coming to the the Root Cellar Lounge. Definitely true that DJ Angst and E-Trash are warming up Bloomington winter nights with the Riot Bootique! Here is a selection from E-Trash's sets played live that evening. Disco Gun is effective to kill any winter blues and uptightness. Disco with the usual Punk attitude; no dark side of the Moon here---"who needs the Moon when we got the stars?" Tracklist below. You can access a high quality file on E-Trash's site (Username: apollo, Password: feelingfree).

Blue velvet on the dancefloor

The latest E-Trash mix, from Riot Bootique, last Saturday at the Farm Root Cellar. I forgot to record it live, but here I re-recorded a combination of the two sets I played minus a few tracks. Blue Velvet on the dance floor---means a trip from Disco to Acid from the eyes of a cracked actor. Tracklist below. Welcome to the XXI Century

The 21st century finally arrived to the United States last night. But like all things in this country, it arrived in full force and better than anywhere else. This country truly has the most impressive ability to regenerate. Even Indiana went Obama! So let's leave the reactionary vision of Bush behind as a Millenium anxiety hickup; he truly was the Y2K bug. We thought it would be a computer bug, but it was the last shoutout of the old century. The rest of the World has moved to the XXI century, some in better ways than others. So let's hail the new century in America, and hope that Obama will push the whole World to a truly interconnected and peaceful vision of the future. Below, the way I feel today, in music and image.

Man Of War -The Sunburst Band

Can You Feel The Force? - The Real Thing

P.S. I can't help remembering a line from one of my favortive movies of all time: Bullworth with Warren Beatty and Halle Berry. This is a line from the senator Bullworth in the movie: "All we need is a voluntary, free-spirited, open-ended program of procreative racial deconstruction. Everybody just gotta keep fuckin' everybody 'til they're all the same color."

Relax, I'm Only Dancing

In the past six months or so, two albums never left my mp3 player: Curtis by Curtis Mayfield and Young Americans by David Bowie. The first is from 1970 and the second from 1975. Both are amazing albums from an amazing period---which resonates with the present times in so many ways. Musically, they show the path from Soul to Disco. But more than that, they show us how Disco was born from the cultural mashups of war and peace, of all racial and sexual colors, of hedonism and activism, of fear and hope, of rough times and glamour. The only thing pure about Disco was its urban identity, and in that, it was much more radical than Punk.

It is no surprise then, that the last few years have witnessed waves of disco revival: from disco-punk to activist soul. This last decade was certainly a throwback to the 1970's---from Vietnam to Nixon, we seem to be playing a very similar script. With all that in mind, I made a mix CD of related tracks from the past and present. This is a very dance-oriented, soulful mix that I made to convey the extreme mashup that Disco, as I see it, is: Relax, I'm Only Dancing. To download it, you need the following username/password combination:

username = apollo
password = feelingfree

Also, if you don't believe Bowie went all Philly/Disco go get the phenomenal Young Americans, especially the 2007 edition with video footage from the Dick Cavett show---see a clip blow as well as another one from the Dinah Shore show (don't you wish American mainstream TV were still this risque?). It was pretty wild to follow "Diamond Dogs" with this...

And they said it was dead...

The zenest sound out of New York, like most things these days, comes from Brooklyn. The Escort collective makes the freshest disco sound of the moment. The white man tried to kill it, but, dude, it ain't dead at all. If this doesn't make you shake that bunda, it is you who are Zombying through life.
